Angels of Mercy Volunteers

Named in honor of the Sisters of Mercy and their nearly 200-year mission of service to the underserved and impoverished of coastal Georgia, the Angels of Mercy advance and enhance the mission, vision and values of St. Joseph/Candler through community volunteerism. The volunteer corps is comprised of St. Joseph’s/Candler employees and family members who give their free time to support local community agencies and other not-for-profit social organizations. The Angels of Mercy are guided by a 15-member advisory committee, which matches volunteer resources to community requests for needed assistance.

 

The group was formed in 1996 to enhance Olympics support initiatives. Since that time, the volunteer group has provided nearly 15,000 hours to local non-profit and community-based social agencies, including:

·        Chatham Association of Retarded Citizens

·        Garrison Elementary School

·        Goodwill Industries

·        Greenbriar Children’s Center

·        Habitat for Humanity

·        Mercy Housing / Heritage Place Apartments

·        Parent & Child

·        Rebuilding Together (formerly Christmas in April)

·        S.A.F.E. Shelter

·        The Salvation Army

·        St. Mary’s Community Center

·        St. Pius Family Resource Center

·        Volunteer Center of United Way
