Cancer Action Teams
Cancer is classified by the part of the body where it first began and by its appearance under the microscope. Different types of cancer vary in their rates of growth, spread patterns and responses to different types of treatment. This is why LCRP Cancer Action Teams have been established-to ensure you are receiving the best care plan available for your type of cancer. The Cancer Action Teams ensure that the LCRP always upholds the highest standards of cancer care through guidelines established by the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN).
Cancer Action Teams are part of a comprehensive strategy to bring progressive, forward-thinking approaches to cancer care and consist of private-practice doctors who have voluntarily dedicated their careers and lives to the continued education, research and treatment of oncology. Through this collaborative effort, a patient has the advantage of an entire team of medical specialists dedicated to:
- breast cancer
- gastrointestinal cancer
- head and neck cancer
- thoracic (lung) cancer
- urologic cancer.

Diagnostic Radiology
In addition to routine X-rays and ultrasonography, we also
provide mammography, CT/MRI and PET scanning, and invasive radiology procedures of angiography, as well as CT- or ultrasound-guided biopsies.
Our Nuclear Medicine Department performs interstitial and internal brachytherapy and oral I-131.
^ TopMultidisciplinary Planning Approach
The Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion's (LCRP) commitment to the multidisciplinary planning approach has enabled physicians and other allied health professionals to engage in weekly cancer conferences where cases are presented and treatment plans developed based on best practices. The conferences are attended by comprehensive teams of oncology experts including a surgical oncologist, radiologist, radiation oncologist, pathologists and many other medical experts. Together, they provide a full continuum of concentrated care in the areas of prevention, education, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitative and palliative care.

Patient Navigation
Once you enter the LCRP, an oncology patient navigator may be assigned to you to help guide you and your family through the journey to recovery. The patient navigator, an oncology-trained registered nurse, is there to help you understand the disease process, your treatment options and supply you with any available information regarding clinical or research trials. They will also help you coordinate your physician appointments, assist with physician referrals, offer ongoing support, educate you on medication programs and coordinate delivery of test results, lab work and X-rays. A patient navigator is a valuable resource on your care team. For more information, please call us at (912) 819-6449.
