Genitourinary (GU) Multidisciplinary Team

The genitourinary (GU) multidisciplinary team serves as a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach for assessing, planning, monitoring, coordinating and evaluating the delivery of cancer care services. The team meets quarterly and is comprised of multidisciplinary physicians and allied healthcare professionals, including urologists, medical oncologists, a radiation oncologist, surgeons, internists, a nutritionist, a clinical research nurse and a patient navigator.

The GU multidisciplinary team strives:

  • To standardize consistent educational materials
  • To create screening guidelines
  • To develop treatment plans through tumor boards to be utilized as guidelines in the treatment and care management of GU cancers.

Initiatives developed by the GU multidisciplinary team have included prostate screening and treatment guidelines for GU cancers, including prostate, bladder, kidney, testicular and penile cancers, based on the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines. Standardized pathology reports were also established.

In addition, the team is developing an awareness and screening calendar that includes community speaking engagements and continuing medical education (CME). Their collaborative initiatives are ongoing and focused upon every September, during National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
