Center for Oto-Neurology
The Center for Oto-Neurology, established in 1977, provides state-of-the-art diagnostics and therapy for patients with ear, hearing, balance, speech/language and central nervous system disorders. Our services include:
- Audiology - Certified
masters- and doctorate-level audiologists provide comprehensive hearing, dizziness and
balance testing for patients of all ages. Hearing tests may
involve auditory
brainstem response testing, otoacoustic emissions, impedance testing and diagnostic audiometry. Testing for dizziness and balance function includes electronystagmography (ENG) and Equitest. Our universal infant hearing screening program was the first in the region to provide hearing testing for newborns prior to leaving the hospital.
- EEG/Intraoperative Monitoring - Registered electroencephalogram (EEG) technologists
assist in the diagnosis of central nervous system and spinal cord lesions
through routine digital EEG studies, 24-hour ambulatory EEG and long-term video EEG monitoring, as well as somatosensory-evoked response and visual-evoked response testing. We were the first hospital in the region to provide intraoperative-evoked potential and EEG monitoring for skull base, orthopaedic and cardiac surgery.
- Speech/Language Pathology - Certified masters-level speech/language pathologists
provide individual and group speech/language therapy for children
and adults. Therapies may include voice therapy, cognitive rehabilitation
and dysphagia (swallowing) evaluation, as well as bedside and modified barium swallow studies and subsequent swallowing therapy.
- Vestibular/Balance Rehabilitation - Therapy for patients with dizziness, balance and movement disorders is provided by specially trained, registered physical therapists. Comprehensive medical evaluations are available and treatment plans are customized for each patient using a multidisciplinary team approach.
