Cancer Action Teams
Various cancer specialists and related healthcare professionals work on five
Cancer Action Teams to combat specific types of cancer —
breast, Thoracic (lung),
head and neck, genitourinary (GU) and
gastrointestinal (GI).
The team members participate on a voluntary basis, taking time away from their
personal and professional lives to help constantly improve their approach to
patient care.
Building on established guidelines from the National Comprehensive Cancer
Network (NCCN), the Cancer Action Teams
share new ideas and cutting-edge diagnostic and treatment options. These
ideas are then discussed until the Cancer Action Team reaches a consensus
on how they should be incorporated into step-by-step processes that can be
used at the LCRP, at the physicians’ offices and throughout St. Joseph’s/Candler.
The LCRP set up the Cancer Action Teams to share information and get patients
the best treatment as quickly as possible. By expediting communications and
clarifying clinical pathways, Cancer Action Teams deliver medical effectiveness
and inspire patient confidence.
