Fran Drescher to headline the 14th annual SmartWomen Luncheon & Expo
Annual event hosted by St. Joseph’s/Candler brings successful and inspiring speakers to SmartWomen of Savannah and the Low Country.
This year's speaker will be Fran Drescher; actress, author and health advocate. Drescher is best known for her portrayal as Miss Fine on CBS’s hit series The Nanny, but also received the prestigious NCCS writer’s award for Cancer Schmancer, which along with Enter Whining, were New York Times best sellers.
SmartWomen Luncheon & Expo is an annual fundraiser for St. Joseph's/Candler's Mary Telfair Women's Hospital, which includes the Mammography Fund at Telfair Pavilion.
The goal of the Mary Telfair Women's Hospital and the Mammography Fund is to ensure that all women have access to mammography, even if they have no insurance and cannot afford it. The SmartWomen Luncheon & Expo has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the Telfair Mammography Fund to meet this goal since its inception over a decade ago.
Individual tickets and tables are currently sold out. However, please call 912-819-8683 to put your name on a waiting list should any come open.

Fran Drescher is best known for her portrayal as Miss Fine on CBS’s hit series The Nanny. Not only did she win two Emmy and two Golden Globe nominations for her role, she also created and executive produced the show. In addition, inspired by her own life, Fran created, executive produced and starred in the TV Land sitcom Happily Divorced.
An accomplished author, Fran received the prestigious NCCS writer’s award for Cancer Schmancer, which along with Enter Whining, were New York Times best sellers. Most recently she penned the celebrated children’s book Being Wendy. Fran recently made her Broadway debut as “Madame” in Rogers+Hammerstein’s Tony-award winning Cinderella. Her famous voice is also featured in the film Hotel Transylvannia 2, in which she reprises her role as Eunice, the wife of Frank Stein.
A 15-year uterine cancer survivor, Fran has become a cancer advocate. Her mission is to shift America’s focus towards proactive health care and healthy, toxin-free living. As Founder, president and Visionary of the non-profit Cancer Schmancer Movement, she focuses on three prongs to fight the disease: Early Detection, Prevention and Advocacy.
Fran uses her unique voice on Capitol Hill to advocate for a range of health issues. She was instrumental in passing the bi-partisan “Gynecologic Cancer Education and Awareness Act” by unanimous consent, earning her two commendations in the Congressional Record. She is a U.S. State Department Diplomacy Envoy for Women’s Health, travelling globally to meet with heads of state, cancer patients, local NGO’s, as well as military bases and hospitals.
