Meet Our Preceptors
These are the professionals who guide our residents
Dr. Ray Maddox is a native of Savannah, and a graduate of University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. He completed a residency in hospital pharmacy practice at Medical University of South Carolina. Later he completed his PharmD degree & clinical pharmacy residency training at University of Kentucky. Dr. Maddox has been extensively involved in educational institutions, professional practice and professional organizations for nearly 35 years. He has authored numerous manuscripts and is a well recognized speaker both nationally and internationally. He is actively involved in clinical research. He serves as the Director of Clinical Pharmacy, Research and Pulmonary Medicine at St. Joseph’s/Candler.

Dr. Denise Daly obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Texas at Austin and Health Science Center at San Antonio in Texas and then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph's/Candler. She has served as a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in several areas. Dr. Daly is the PGY1 Residency Director. She also lectures at South University in the Physician Assistant program and has spoken extensively for St. Joseph’s/Candler Education Department and other local and regional professional organizations. She is a member of ACCP, ASHP, GSHP and is board certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS).
Dr. Hal Richards obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. After graduation he completed a specialty residency in Critical Care/ Nutritional Support at University of Arizona in Tucson. Upon graduation he became a clinical pharmacist on the Kidney-Liver-Pancreas Transplant Team at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Richards is the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Critical Care and Nutritional Support at St. Joseph's/Candler and the PGY2 Residency Director. His academic appointments are to University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy and South University School of Pharmacy. Dr. Richards is board certified in nutrition. (BCNSP)
Mr. Paul Carpenter received his BS in pharmacy from Auburn University in Alabama. He originally worked for several years in Alabama and North Carolina and later joined the pharmacy staff at Candler Hospital. He is the Pharmacy Manager of the Candler Hospital campus of St. Joseph’s/Candler. He is a member of the Medication Management Team, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, Patient Education Committee, Institutional Review Board, Falls Committee and Community Benefits Committee and professional pharmacy organizations at the local, state, and national level.
Dr. Chris Jones obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. After graduation he worked as a staff pharmacist for St. Joseph's Hospital. He then became the Director of Pharmacy at Candler County Hospital in Georgia. Dr. Jones obtained a Masters in Business Administration from Georgia Southern University. He returned to Savannah, and worked as a Clinical Pharmacist with St. Joseph’s/Candler before becoming the Pharmacy Manager of the St. Joseph's Hospital campus. Dr. Jones serves as the pharmacy liaison to the St. Joseph’s/Candler Center for Clinical Research and is a member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
Dr. Geneen Gibson received her BS in Zoology from University of Georgia and Master of Science in Microbiology from University of Florida. She was employed as a microbiologist for 15 years and is certified as both a technologist and specialist in Microbiology by the American Society of Clinical Pathology. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Florida and completed a Pharmacy Practice and Infectious Disease Specialty residency at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Gibson is board certified in Pharmacotherapy with additional qualifications in Infectious Diseases (BCPS AQ-ID). Dr. Gibson is the Infectious Diseases Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for St. Joseph’s/Candler. She is a member of ASHP, GSHP, ACCP, SIDP and ASM.
Dr. Valerie Scarborough obtained her B.S. in Chemistry from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University Southern School of Pharmacy in Atlanta, Georgia. She worked as a staff pharmacist at St. Joseph’s Hospital prior to entering and completing a Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler. Dr. Scarborough is the Cardiology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for St. Joseph’s/Candler. She covers the Cardiac Critical Care Unit, Cateherization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab and the Cardiac Recovery Unit. Dr. Scarborough is a member of ASHP, GSHP and ACCP.
Dr. Vanessa E. Jones obtained her B.S. in Pharmacy and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. She worked as a staff pharmacist at Candler Hospital before completing a Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph's/Candler. Prior to pharmacy school Dr. Jones received her B.S. in Medical Technology and worked as a Medical Technologist for Candler Hospital. Dr. Jones is currently an Internal Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist specializing in sickle cell disease management and diabetes mellitus disease management. She serves on the Diabetes Advisory Committee and is an active member of ASHP as well as a reviewer for physician preference orders. She is board certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS).
Dr. Heather Hugener Seibert obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from South University School of Pharmacy in Savannah, Georgia and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler. Dr. Seibert then obtained her Master of Business Administration from Auburn University. She is the Operations Manager for the Center for Medication Management at St. Joseph’s/Candler and oversees operations at the Savannah, Bluffton, SC and Hilton Head Island, SC locations. The Center for Medication Management specializes in anticoagulation therapy, hyperlipidemia management, coordination of patient care, and patient education. Dr. Seibert also oversees the development and implementation of inpatient protocols revolving around anticoagulation therapy. Dr. Seibert is a member of ASHP, GSHP, and the National Lipid Association.
Dr. Wanda Kay North obtained her B.S.in Nursing from Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, MBA from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri and a PhD in Health Administration from Warren National University in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Dr. North is a Certified Clinical Research Study Coordinator (CCRC) and Certified Institutional Review Board (IRB) Manager. Dr. North is the Manager of The Center for Clinical Research and a Lt. Colonel in the United States Air Force Reserves Nurse Corps. She has served on the Board of Trustees for the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP), is a Past-Chair of the ACRP Nursing CEU Subcommittee, and is currently serving on several volunteer committees for ACRP.
Dr. Erica Merritt received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. She completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler. Dr. Merritt is an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at St. Joseph’s/Candler and is currently involved in the development and implementation of clinical pharmacy services in the emergency departments within the health system. She is BLS/ACLS certified and responds as part of the code team. Dr. Merritt is a member of ACCP, ASHP, GSHP and is board certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS).
Dr. Sabrina Croft obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. She completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. After residency, Dr. Croft spent six years as a clinical pharmacist at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina and one year as a clinical pharmacist at Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Kansas City. Dr. Croft is an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at St. Joseph's/Candler. She is board certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS) and BLS/ACLS certified and a member of ACCP, ASHP, and APhA.
Ms. Carolyn Williams received her B.S. in pharmacy from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. Ms. Williams is the Medication Safety Specialist for St. Joseph’s/Candler and is active in various local, regional and statewide professional organizations. She is a member of the Council on Pharmacotherapeutics of the Georgia Hospital Association’s Partnership for Health and Accountability. She has published articles on intravenous medication safety and Patient Controlled Analgesia in peer reviewed professional journals. She speaks on medication safety and intravenous infusion safety at pharmacy and nursing professional conferences locally and nationally.
Dr. Rie Avino obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Samford University McWhorter School of Pharmacy in Birmingham, Alabama and completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Shands Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida. She has been practicing in the area of Oncology Pharmacy for the past 15 years. Dr. Avino is board-certified in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) and is currently an Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist for St. Joseph's/Candler. She is an active member of various state and national pharmacy organizations.
Dr. Donya Goodly obtained her B.S. in Chemistry from Savannah State University and worked as a bench chemist/technician and then as a certified pharmacy technician prior to obtaining her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from South University in Savannah, Georgia. She completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler. Dr. Goodly is a Clinical Pharmacist and currently serves as a liaison for the Medication Safety Specialist in the development of Medication Use Evaluations. She is a member of GSHP and ASHP.
Dr. Jeffrey D. Hogg received his B.S in Recreation, Park and Tourism Science from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. He was employed at the Westin Galleria Dallas as a Front Desk Manager for several years before making a career change to pharmacy. Dr. Hogg received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from South University School of Pharmacy. He then completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler. Dr. Hogg is a Clinical Pharmacist and is a member of various state and national professional organizations
Dr. Bruce M. Jones obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from East Tennessee State University Gatton College of Pharmacy in Johnson City, Tennessee. He then completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler. Dr. Jones is a Clinical Pharmacist and serves as the Coordinator of the Teaching and Learning Development Series. Dr. Jones is BLS/ACLS certified and a member of ASHP and ACCP.
Dr. Carrie Cooper obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from South University School of Pharmacy in Savannah, Georgia. She then completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler. She is a Clinical Pharmacist in the Internal Medicine and Surgery/Anesthesia areas. Dr. Cooper is a member of the SCIP Steering Committee, GSHP and ASHP.
Dr. Jason Pierce obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and was employed at Southeast Regional Medical Center in Brunswick, Georgia prior to joining St. Joseph’s/Candler as a clinical pharmacist. Dr. Pierce went on to complete a Master of Health Services Administration from Armstrong Atlantic State University. He has served on the St. Joseph’s/Candler CEO Council and currently trains our new residents in pharmacy distribution and staffing.
Dr. Julie Boatright obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Georgia College of Pharmacy and was employed for several years as a clinical pharmacist at St. Joseph’s/Candler prior to completing her PGY1 residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler. Dr. Boatright was instrumental in developing our Non-Traditional PGY1 program and was our first resident graduate of this program. She serves on the Safe Kids of Savannah committee and is a member of the St. Joseph’s/Candler Pediatric Section, GSHP and ASHP. Dr. Boatright is board certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS).
Dr. Joey Crosby obtained his BS in Pharmacy and PhD in Pharmacy/Health Care Administration from University of Georgia. He is Professor of Health Services Administration and Program Director for Master of Health Sciences Administration at Armstrong Atlantic State University and Adjunct Professor at South University School of Health Professions. Dr. Crosby practices as a clinical pharmacist at St. Joseph’s/Candler and mentors the residents on their research projects in the area of statistics. He is a Fellow of the American College of Pharmaceutical Education.
Dr. Nancy Nix received her B.S. in Biology from North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, GA and her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Georgia in Athens, GA. She worked as a retail pharmacy manager for four years and then for two years as a clinical pharmacist with St. Joseph’s/Candler. Subsequently, Dr. Nix completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency through the University of Georgia at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA where she also completed a Master’s Teaching Certificate Program. She then completed a Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) specialty residency in Oncology at Cone Health Cancer Center in Greensboro, NC. Dr. Nix is the Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in the ambulatory infusion center in Hilton Head, SC. She is BLS/ACLS certified and is a member of ASHP, GSHP, ACCP, ASCO and HOPA.
Dr. Charles Jensen received his BS in Microbiology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He worked for three years as a Quality Control Microbiologist for Nature’s Way Products, Inc. in Springville, Utah prior to attending pharmacy school. He completed his Doctorate of Pharmacy at South University and subsequently a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System in Savannah, Georgia. His current role is that of a clinical pharmacist for Savannah's City-wide Antimicrobial Management Program and St. Joseph's/Candler's Center for Medication Management. Dr. Jensen is BLS/ACLS certified and is a member of ASHP, GSHP, ACCP, and MAD-ID.
Faculty Practitioners
Dr. Wesley Krulic received both his BS in Pharmacy and his Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the University of Georgia. He worked many years as a retail pharmacist prior to becoming a Clinical Pharmacist at St. Joseph’s/Candler where he established and developed the Clinical Pharmacy Services for Surgery and Anesthesia. Dr. Krulic then joined University of Georgia College of Pharmacy as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Regional Coordinator for Savannah and Southeast Georgia for the Department of Experiential Education. He practices as a Clinical Specialist at St. Joseph’s/Candler in Surgery/Anesthesia and serves as the Editor for the St Joseph’s/Candler Pharmacy Newsletter. Dr. Krulic coordinates Journal Club for both pharmacy residents and students on rotation in the health system. He is member of GPHA, GSHP, ASHP, ACCP, ACPE.
Dr. Scott Kincaid obtained his Doctor of Pharmacy from West Virginia University and then completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency and a Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Infectious Disease Residency at West Virginia University Hospitals. He is Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at South University School of Pharmacy and practices as an Infectious Diseases Clinical Specialist at St. Joseph’s/Candler. Dr. Kincaid serves on the St. Joseph’s/Candler P&T Committee Antimicrobial Sub-Committee and the Infection Control Committee. He is a member of the Society of Infectious Diseases, American Society for Microbiology, ASHP and is board certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS).
Dr. Heather Pound obtained her BS in Biology from University of North Florida and her Doctor of Pharmacy from South University School of Pharmacy in Savannah, GA. She then completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at Moses Cone Health System in NC and a Postgraduate Year Two (PGY2) Hematology/Oncology Residency at H.Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr. Pound is Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at South University School of Pharmacy and practices as an Oncology Clinical Specialist at St. Joseph’s/Candler. She is a member of HOPA, AACP, ASHP and is board certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS).
Dr. Kim Tackett obtained her BS in Biology, BS in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Kentucky and Master of Healthcare Administration from South University. She then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Richland Memorial Hospital in Columbia, SC. Dr. Tackett is Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at South University School of Pharmacy and practices as an Internal Medicine Clinical Specialist at St. Joseph’s/Candler. She is a member of ADA, GSHP, ASHP, AACP, ACCP and Society of Infectious Disease Pharmacists. Dr. Tacket is a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) and board certified in Pharmacotherapy with additional qualifications in Infectious Diseases (BCPS AQ-ID).
Dr. Michael Thomas obtained his BS in Education and Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Arizona. He then completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Arizona Health Sciences. Dr. Thomas is Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at South University School of Pharmacy and practices as a Clinical Specialist in Emergency Medicine at St. Joseph’s/Candler. He is a member of GSHP, ASHP, ACCP and is board certified in Pharmacotherapy (BCPS).
