Hand-carved, marble statue of Jesus arrives for expansion project at St. Joseph's Hospital

Carefully wrapped in plastic and foam, an important peice of the spiritual outdoor presentation for the renovated St. Joseph’s Hospital arrived July 21.

A hand-carved, marble statue of Jesus, his arms open to welcome you, will be the centerpiece for a fountain at the entrance of the expanded Emergency Department upon its completion.

The statue, which was shipped from Italy, is White Carrera Marble. It stands 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs approximately 1,300 pounds.

The statue was crafted by hand at the time of the order and took several months to complete. Specific details include scars on both hands, his beard, sandals and more.

The marble Jesus statue was created by Demetz Studio located in Ortisei, Italy. The small village is located in the Northern part of Italy, at the heart of the Alps.

The statue will remain securely in storage as construction continues at the St. Joseph’s Hospital site. Construction, which began February of this year, is expected to last 18-months. For more information on the expansion project, click here.
