Continence Care

Of the 20 million Americans plagued by urinary incontinence, almost 70% are women. Urinary incontinence has many causes, including weakened pelvic floor muscles due to childbirth or previous pelvic surgery and, in men, it can be the result of an enlarged prostate or prostate surgery.

Proper diagnosis of the problem is crucial to ensuring effective treatment. Urodynamic testing is a diagnostic study of the lower urinary system that evaluates storage and emptying of urine and can determine the exact cause of urinary incontinence. These tests help your doctor determine the cause of the leakage and the appropriate treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be referred by a physician?

Yes. Your physician will determine if our treatments are appropriate for you. Most insurance companies require a physician's order for reimbursement.

What can be done if I lose a few drops of urine when I cough or sneeze?

We offer a program designed to strengthen pelvic floor muscles.

Can something be done for me if I constantly feel the urge to urinate?

We offer a program that can help re-train your bladder and decrease the need to urinate frequently. Certain foods and beverages can irritate the bladder, so you will be educated on what to eliminate from your diet.

I have tried Kegel exercises in the past and did not find them helpful. How is your program different?

We use special technology, called biofeedback, which allows you and your nurse to be sure you are using the correct muscles. Biofeedback also allows you to follow the progress of your pelvic muscles as these muscles gain strength. Each program is designed specifically to meet your individual needs.
