Thanks to advancements in technology, minimally-invasive surgeries are possible. Patients can recover faster and are less susceptible to complications that can come with traditionally open surgery. Some of these procedures allow the surgeon to have better vision and cause less damage to healthy tissue.
St. Joseph’s/Candler has made a serious commitment to investing in these technologies to give our patients a better experience and get them back to their lives faster. Examples of minimally-invasive surgeries include laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery and balloon sinuplasty surgery.
da Vinci Robotic Surgery
Our surgeons and staff have performed hundreds of robotic procedures making us the most experienced robotic hospital in the Greater Savannah area. Patients that are candidates for da Vinci trust us for faster, less painful recoveries.
The da Vinci Robotic Surgical System uses sophisticated computer-aided equipment which allows the surgeon to have the benefit of magnified views of regular laparoscopic surgery while retaining the three dimensional view of traditional open surgery, all in high definition.
We have da Vinci robots at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Candler Hospital and the Pooler Campus. da Vinci robotic surgery can be used for general surgeries, such as gallbladder removal, lung surgery, tumor removal and more.
Many surgeries once requiring a hospital stay are now offered at both hospitals and the Pooler Campus in outpatient surgery, which has expanded in recent years to focus on the growing outpatient needs. The convenience of same day surgery, as well as the reduced expense and few missed workdays, are tremendous advantages.
