American Cancer Society's Relay For Life

Relay for Life celebrates survivorship and raises money for American Cancer Society research and programs. Teams of runners and walkers gather at schools, fairgrounds or parks and take turns completing laps, trying to keep at least one team member on the track at all times.

Relay for Life participants come together to share in the hope that those lost to cancer will be remembered, those who face cancer will be supported and cancer will be eliminated.

How the Relay for Life Works

Each year SJ/C participates in the fundraiser with the American Cancer Society to increase awareness, celebrate cancer survivors and honor those who have lost their battle with cancer. This event is held at Armstrong and SJ/C is one of the title sponsors.

The health system sponsors a team of employees, support group members and families. Each team has a campsite that is decorated in a theme to represent hope, courage and strength for cancer patients. The event lasts for 24 hours and the team is tasked with having a member on the track at all times in honor of a cancer survivor. The funds raised during this event are used for research and to provide educational and support programs to cancer patients and their families.
