Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy Allows More Detailed Cancer Diagnostics

Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS) is a non-invasive, imaging procedure similar to MRI that can assist physicians in the diagnosis of cancer.

MRS can be performed in conjunction with an MRI scan to provide a full picture of health by using information from metabolic changes in the patient’s cells. While MRI scans provide a map of organ structures, MRS investigates the chemical structure of cells, and can use the information over time to both diagnose and track the progression of conditions like cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease. The biochemical information about cells within the body help physicians make a diagnosis. Depending on the specific condition being investigated, an MRS scan can be programmed for one specific chemical or element.
