St. Joseph’s/Candler Inpatient Services Are Now Available to Gulfstream Employees
As the region’s only faith-based, not-for-profit health system, St. Joseph’s/Candler is the most experienced healthcare provider in the region, offering the latest medical technology that rivals any medical facility in the country.
Our two anchor hospitals have a combined more than 325 years of dedicated healthcare service under one umbrella. Both St. Joseph’s Hospital and Candler Hospital are individually accredited by the Join Commission, while the health system as a whole is one of a select few in the country to have achieved network accreditation status.
Additionally, St. Joseph’s/Candler is the only healthcare provider in the region to have achieved MAGNET status for nursing excellence an astonishing four times. There are only 29 other health systems in the world who have earned as many designations.
St. Joseph’s Hospital
St. Joseph’s Hospital is located on Savannah’s Southside. It’s a 330-bed acute care hospital founded in 1875 by the Sisters of Mercy. In addition to general services, St. Joseph’s is known for its breakthrough technology, highly-specialized treatments and advanced medical procedures in a number of areas including:
- The Heart Hospital for cardiovascular services, including a dedicated coronary care unit and cath labs
- Neurological/Neurosurgical services, including a dedicated neurological intensive care unit

Candler Hospital
Candler Hospital is located in Savannah’s midtown. It is Georgia’s first hospital, first treating patients in 1804, and the second oldest continuously operating hospital in the United States. The 384-bed facility is known for the finest in primary care, outpatient services and other specialty services including:
- Women’s and Children’s Services, including the home of Mary Telfair Women’s Hosiptal
- Oncology Services, with the Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion directly across the street
- Pulmonology, with a dedicated bronchoscopy suite
- Digestive Diseases
- Day surgery
- Emergency department
- Advanced Imaging Services
The Mary Telfair Women’s Hospital is the region’s undisputed leader in advanced obstetrical and gynecological care, education and outpatient services for women. Services include a Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit; Telfair BirthPlace; The Children’s Place, dedicated to pediatrics; Telfair Pavilion dedicated to mammography; and Telfair Breast Surgery.
The Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion is home to a team of the region’s most highly-trained cancer specialists that skillfully use high-impact technological screening and treatment options for optimal results. Services include medical oncology; surgical oncology; chemotherapy; radiation therapy with the latest technology in TrueBeam and CyberKnife; clinical trials; and much more.
St. Joseph’s/Candler Pooler Campus
Additionally, we recently opened up the St. Joseph’s/Candler Pooler Campus, conveniently located not far from Gulfstream off Pooler Parkway. The 170,000-square-foot campus is an example of an innovative concept in healthcare where patient are put in control of their healthcare experience.
