Asthma Management at St. Joseph's/Candler

The number of people in the United States with asthma continues to grow.  One in 12 people (about 26 million, or 8% of the population) had asthma in 2011.  More than half (51%) of people with asthma had an asthma attack in 2011.  Asthma cost the US about $3,300 per person with asthma each year from 2002 to 2007 in medical expenses, missed school and work days and early deaths.

A Team Approach to Controlling Asthma and Asthma Symptoms

Asthma Management, including patient and family education regarding the disease, treatment plan and self care requirements, helps patients with asthma to better control their disease.  Together with medical care by a physician, asthma management can help you feel better and live a healthier life.

Asthma management includes a personal assessment, group or individual education to help you understand your asthma triggers, care recommendations, preventive measures and procedures for acute episodes, follow-up sessions, educational materials, a peak flow meter and communication with your personal physician.
