Train Smart Summer Strength and Conditioning Camp

With the end of the school year just around the corner, parents should consider this awesome summer camp for the growing athlete in their home being offered by St. Joseph’s/Candler.

Train Smart

If you are currently involved in a sports team and you want to improve your game, then this camp is for you. The St. Joseph’s/Candler Wellness Center is offering a very unique, fun and challenging summer sports camp experience. This camp is designed for the younger athlete, 8-13 years of age, who wants to work on their overall strength, speed, agility, and conditioning. The camp is divided into two sessions, Speed & Agility training in the morning followed by Strength Training and Conditioning in the afternoon. Both sessions are taught by certified fitness trainers.  Spaces are limited for all sessions.

When: June 4-8, 8:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Memorial Day School, 6500 Habersham Street, Savannah
Morning Drop Off: 8:30 at Memorial Day School gym
Afternoon Pick Up: 3 p.m. in the Memorial Day School gym
Cost: $135 a week (Train Smart T-shirt included)
Registration begins: March 15
For who: 8-13 years of age

Please wear athletic shoes for both indoor and outdoor activities and loose fitting and comfortable clothing. Also, bring a healthy lunch, and we recommend bringing a water bottle. For more information, please contact Patrick O'Neill at 912-819-8834.

Speed & Agility Training, 9 a.m. to noon

The first half of Train Smartis speed and agility training. As the sports world has become more competitive, speed and agility have become very important qualities for athletes to possess. Experienced trainers will help  you identify problems ini your running form that are preventing you from being as fast as you can be. With a focus on ladder drills and footwork, we can help you become quicker and more agile. Improvements made in these areas will result in improved performance in your particular sport. Athletes are grouped by age and ability level. 

Some specific areas of focus will include:

  • First step explosion
  • Plyometric training
  • Agility & balance drills
  • Ladder drills for foot quickness
  • Improved reaction time
  • Improved flexibility 

Strength Traiing & Condition, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Proper strength and conditioning plays a large role in sports performance as well as injury prevention. Train Smart training enables athletes to get the most out of their athletic ability. By focusing on form, conditioning and speed techniques, athletes of all abilities can improve their sports performance as well as reduce injuries. Athletes will be introduced to a variety of training techniques to help improve:

  • Quickness
  • Speed and strength
  • Confidence
  • Balance and agility
  • Conditioning
  • Cross Fit workouts
