The Residency Class of 2021


Candler Hospital PGY1 Class of 2021

Dr. Sarah Lopez is originally from Portland, Oregon. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon before earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the South University in Savannah, Georgia. Dr. Lopez’s professional interests include Internal Medicine, Critical Care, and Cardiology. Upon completion of her PGY1 pharmacy residency, Dr. Lopez would like to pursue a career in Internal Medicine, practicing as a board-certified clinical pharmacist. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys hiking, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Kelsey Rensing is originally from Valdosta, Ga. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy in Athens, Ga. Dr. Rensing's professional interests include Ambulatory care, Neonatal care, and Internal Medicine. Upon completion of her PGY1 pharmacy residency, Dr. Rensing would like to either complete PGY2 in Ambulatory care or pursue career in internal medicine or neonatal care with the ultimate goal of practicing as a board-certified clinical pharmacist working in a community hospital or ambulatory clinic. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys traveling, playing with her dog, Ozzy, and trying new restaurants around Savannah.

Dr. Tatyana Givens is originally from Stone Mountain, Georgia. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Science from Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi before earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. Dr. Givens’ professional interests include Ambulatory Care, Internal Medicine, and Geriatrics. Upon completion of her PGY1 pharmacy residency, Dr. Givens would like to pursue a PGY2 in Ambulatory Care with the ultimate goal of practicing as a board-certified clinical pharmacist working in a variety of specialty outpatient clinics. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys binge-watching shows/movies on Netflix, game nights, and exploring Savannah.

Dr. Mary Sheffield is originally from Columbia, South Carolina. She earned her undergrad degree and Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of South Carolina College of Pharmacy in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Sheffield’s professional interests include infectious disease and critical care. Upon completion of her PGY1 pharmacy residency, Dr. Sheffield would like to complete a PGY2 in critical care, with the ultimate goal of practicing as a board-certified critical care clinical pharmacist. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, spoiling her dog Brody, and traveling. 

Dr. Cody Parker is originally from Rincon, GA. He attended Armstrong State University in Savannah, GA before earning his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy in Athens, GA. Dr. Parker’s professional interests include internal medicine, infectious disease, and ambulatory care. Upon completion of his PGY1 pharmacy residency, Dr. Parker would like to pursue a career in internal medicine, with the ultimate goal of practicing as a board-certified clinical pharmacist working in a community hospital setting. Outside of pharmacy, he enjoys going to the beach, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.

Dr. Samuel Pavlichek is originally from Dacula, GA. He earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. Dr. Pavlichek’s professional interests include cardiac arrhythmias, hemostasis and anticoagulation, and infectious diseases. Upon completion of his PGY1 pharmacy residency, Dr. Pavlichek intends to complete PGY2 in Emergency Medicine, with the ultimate goal of practicing as a board-certified clinical pharmacist working in a fast-paced emergency department. Outside of pharmacy, he enjoys teaching his dogs agility, trying new meal and drink recipes, and watching Great British Bakeoff with his wife, Ellie.

Candler Hospital Non-traditional PGY1

Dr. Chelsea Orvin is originally from Tifton, GA. She earned her Associate's Degree in Biology from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA before earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. Dr. Orvin’s professional interests include internal medicine, oncology, and medication safety. Upon completion of her PGY1 pharmacy residency, Dr. Orvin would like to pursue a career in medication safety. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys reading, making candles, and spending time with her family.

St Joseph’s/Candler PGY2 Programs

St Joseph’s/Candler PGY2 Emergency Medicine

Dr. Gina Cherniawski is originally from Shelby Township, Michigan. She earned prerequisite credits at Lyman Briggs College at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan before earning her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She completed her PGY1 pharmacy residency at Mount Sinai Hospital Health System in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Cherniawski's professional interests include resuscitation and code response, cardiology, and trauma. Upon completion of her PGY2 Emergency Medicine pharmacy residency, Dr. Cherniawski will pursue a career as an Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Specialist, with the ultimate goal of practicing as a board-certified clinical pharmacist. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys being outdoors, spending time with her family and friends, and dreaming about her future dog.

St Joseph’s/Candler PGY2 Critical Care

Dr. Stephen Henry McCall is originally from Vidalia, Georgia. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Georgia before earning his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy. Dr. McCall completed his PGY1 residency training here at St. Joseph's/Candler Health System, and his professional interests include critical care and emergency medicine, nephrology, and academia. Upon completion of his PGY2 critical care pharmacy residency, Dr. McCall would like to pursue a career in critical care pharmacy with the ultimate goal of practicing as a board-certified clinical pharmacist working in a medical/surgical intensive care unit where he can also precept pharmacy students on clinical rotations. Outside of pharmacy, he enjoys soccer, golf, and trying new restaurants around the area.

St Joseph’s/Candler Ambulatory Care PGY2

Dr. Mackenzi Meier is originally from Peetz, Colorado. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree in 2019 from the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming prior to completing her PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at St. Joseph’s/Candler Health System. Dr. Meier’s professional interests include ambulatory care, infectious disease and academia. Upon completion of her PGY2 pharmacy residency, Dr. Meier would like to pursue a career in ambulatory care or academia with the ultimate goal of practicing as a board-certified ambulatory care clinical pharmacist. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys going to the beach, hanging out with friends, and exploring Savannah.

Dr. Kristen Pierce is originally from Guyton, Georgia. She earned her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree from the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. She then completed a Postgraduate Year One (PGY1) Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Dublin VA Medical Center in Dublin, Georgia. Dr. Pierce is currently a PGY2 Ambulatory Care Resident at St. Joseph’s/Candler. Her goals include pursuing a career in a primary or specialty care setting and becoming board certified in Ambulatory Care. Aside from ambulatory care, Dr. Pierce’s professional interests include infectious diseases and mental health. Outside of pharmacy, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing outside with her dog Glory (go Dawgs), and watching Netflix.
