Angels of Mercy Volunteers

Comprised of St. Joseph's/Candler co-workers, family members and friends, St. Joseph’s/Candler’s Angels of Mercy Volunteer Corps serves the community through active volunteerism.

Named in honor of the Sisters of Mercy and their nearly 200-year mission of service to the poor and underserved of coastal Georgia, the Angels of Mercy enhance the mission, vision and values of St. Joseph's/Candler by promoting wellness for all people and assisting the underserved members of our communities.

The volunteer group began in 1996 in response to the City of Savannah’s need for assistance with the Olympic Torch Run event. Since that time, the group has found its purpose in assisting not-for-profit organizations and other local social agencies throughout coastal Georgia and the South Carolina low country. With nearly 25 years of service to the region, The Angels of Mercy have collectively logged well over 100,000 volunteer man hours in various communities throughout the region.

On average the Angels of Mercy provide volunteer support to at least one community service project each month. The generous donations of fellow health system co-workers provide the financial sustainability to support many of the group’s monthly volunteer activities and needed project supplies.

A past recipient of the J C Penny Golden Rule Volunteer Group of the Year Award, the Angels have been recognized by numerous other community agencies and organizations through the years for their continued community support, civic dedication, and for caring for the underserved throughout Savannah and the surrounding areas.
