Cindy Murphy has been elected Chair of the St. Joseph’s/Candler Foundations Board of Trustees, continuing her years of dedication and volunteerism to the health system.

She will lead the board that provides philanthropic support so the health system can fulfill its mission.

Cindy Murphy“The St. Joseph’s/Candler Foundations has helped so many people in our community get the healthcare they need. It has been one of the most rewarding experiences to work with them,” Murphy said. “We are heading into an exciting time as we complete Phase II of our Advancing Excellence: Touching Lives campaign and I look forward to the challenge of chairing this great Board of Trustees.”

Murphy started with Candler Hospital  in 1977 as a medical social worker. She joined the Foundations board in 1998 and most recently served as the chair of the Appropriations Committee.

She was part of the group who launched the annual SmartWomen Luncheon and Expo which has raised more than $1 million for women’s health services. She also chaired the event in 2007 and received the event’s  Volunteer of the Year Award in 2013.

“Cindy is known throughout our community as a passionate volunteer and tireless worker. She is very dedicated to the St. Joseph’s/Candler mission,” said Paul P. Hinchey, President & CEO of St. Joseph’s/Candler. “I can’t think of a better person for this position as we work to complete Phase II of our Advancing Excellence: Touching Lives campaign and improve healthcare in our region.”

Murphy is married to Walter B. Murphy III and has three daughters; Meghan M. Jue, Colleen M. D'Arrigo, and Kelin Murphy;  and 5 grandchildren.

St. Joseph’s/Candler has developed a strategy which ensures continued access to clinical services and programs, while ensuring the financial strength of our system for the continued availability of healthcare services across the many communities we serve.

The SJ/C Foundations successfully completed Phase I of our current initiative, Advancing Excellence: Touching Lives. Phase II continues to be successful and is addressing projects to enhance the patient experience throughout the system. So far the campaign has raised more than $9.6 million.

Past Foundations Chair Scott Lauretti and Dr. Julia Mikell, Director of System Quality Performance for SJ/C, are leading that campaign, and Murphy will now join them.
