Paint the Town Pink raises more than $70,000 for Telfair Mammography Fund

The annual partnership between St. Joseph's/Candler, Savannah Morning News, and WSAV was most successful ever

St. Joseph's/Candler (SJ/C) President & CEO Paul P. Hinchey said, “The 18th annual Paint the Town Pink campaign was a resounding success, demonstrating the compassionate spirit of this community and the commitment of so many organizations that joined us in this effort.” He spoke during a press conference on Friday, Nov. 14 alongside representatives from the campaign‘s media partners Savannah Morning News and WSAV.

From the SmartWomen Luncheon to the Pinking of Savannah’s City Hall to Mammography Day and every moment in between, local organizations and individuals came together with St. Joseph's/Candler to champion women’s breast health last month.

The community’s concerted efforts to Paint the Town Pink brought in over $70,000 in donations for the Telfair Mammograpy Fund. The final count is still being tallied as organizations continue to deliver their checks.

Key donor organizations and initatives that presented checks at the press conference included St. Vincent’s Academy Pink Night; Livingood’s Clearance for a Cause; Drive Out Cancer: Pink Jeep (with Southern Motors); The Habersham School; J.C. Lewis Ford Drive 4 UR Community; Savannah Classical Academy and, a Savannah institution, Clary’s Café.

David Hart, vice president and general manager at Nexstar Media Group, Inc./WSAV, lauded the collaborative nature of Paint the Town Pink. He extolled his news team‘s impact as a new media partner for the campaign. He specifically called out anchor Tina Tyus-Shaw, who championed the campaign all month long through news features, interviews, the Healing Heroes Fashion Show and the ongoing Buddy Check 3 initiative.

Savannah Morning News Exective Director Jill Nevels-Haun was also on hand to underscore the importance of the nearly two-decade-long partnership with SJ/C. Nevels-Haun also announced the winner for the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside staycation raffle. Women who received Mammography Day screenings on Oct. 27 were eligible to enter a raffle for a one-night stay and $150 toward food and drink. The winner will be contacted with information on how to retrieve their reward.
