At St. Joseph's/Candler, our cardiology imaging services are designed to evaluate heart health comprehensively. Using state-of-the-art technology, we deliver precise imaging that supports early diagnosis and targeted treatment, helping our specialists create a tailored approach to each patient’s care. Our imaging services include CT scanning, ultrasound imaging, and nuclear medicine studies that offer invaluable insights into cardiac function and health.

Comprehensive cardiac imaging services

Our cardiac imaging services include advanced techniques to assess heart health and detect potential issues accurately. Each service is tailored to provide detailed insights, supporting personalized care and effective treatment planning.

Computerized Tomography (CT Scan)

Our high definition CT scanner allows cardiology specialists to detect specific heart diseases accurately. This advanced scan sometimes uses contrast material to highlight coronary arteries, enabling our team to assess calcium buildup, heart valve issues, and more. Known as coronary CT angiography (CTA), this scan provides detailed images for evaluating coronary artery health and structure.

Ultrasound Imaging

  • Standard Echocardiogram (TTE)
Also called a cardiac ultrasound or transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE), this non-invasive imaging method is quick and effective. During a TTE, a probe is placed on the patient’s chest to capture detailed images of the heart’s structure through the chest wall. This test offers a thorough assessment of heart function without the need for more invasive procedures.
  • Transesophageal Echocardiogram (TEE)
Our team may recommend a transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) for more detailed imaging. This test involves inserting a specialized probe into the esophagus and positioning it closer to the heart for more precise imaging of its internal structure. Though more invasive than a TTE, a TEE offers greater precision and is particularly useful for identifying specific cardiac conditions.

Nuclear Medicine (Nuclear Scanning)

Our Nuclear Scanning services involve administering a radioactive compound by injection or swallowing to accurately image cardiac function. This technology captures radiation emitted from the compound, creating a computerized picture of the heart. Nuclear scanning is beneficial for assessing heart muscle function and detecting areas of damage. Tests can be done through exercise on a treadmill or using Cardiolyte, a drug alternative for non-exercise testing, ensuring we meet each patient's unique needs.
