Group Fitness Classes at the Wellness Center

Our fitness classes are designed to use the power of a group to motivate you and get you to reach new heights in your exercise routine. Designed for beginners to experts, young to the old, explore and experience our variety of fitness classes.

Group fitness classes are taught in Suites 100 and 120 on the first floor of the Heart and Lung Building and in the conference room located in the Wellness Center. You must be a Wellness Center member to attend classes. Pre-registration is for water aerobics only.

2019 Group Fitness Schedule

Water Aerobics

All classes are held in the warm therapy pool located in the Heart and Lung Building, Suite 120 on the first floor. Swimming is not required for any of the Water Aerobics. A pool lift is available to assist participants into the pool. All classes are 45 minutes in length. MUST BE A WELLNESS CENTER MEMBER, and due to high demand, each participant may only register for one group of classes.

Classes include: easy warm up, range of motion, cardiovascular endurance, strength training (with water weights) and relaxation.

  • 10 a.m., Monday, Wednesday & Friday
  • 10:30 a.m., Tuesday & Thursday
  • Noon, Monday through Friday
  • 1:30 p.m., Monday, Wednesday & Friday
  • 6 p.m., Monday through Friday

Tai Chi

Learn to improve your health with an exercise derived from the ancient Chinese martial arts. This class's gentle movements may improve your physical energy, circulation, flexibility, coordination and balance. Classes are an hour and a half long and are held in the Heart and Lung Building, Suite 100. The classes are open to anyone interested, but Wednesday's classes are designed with the beginner in mind.

  • 10:30 a.m. to noon, Monday, Wednesday & Friday

Circuit Training

This 45-minute cardio and strength workout maximizes your athletic ability! This class alternates 2-5 minutes of cardio with 2-5 minutes of strength exercises guaranteed to make you sweat. This class is taught on the track in Suite 120 of the Heart and Lung Building.

  • 5:15 p.m. - 6 p.m., Monday & Wednesday

Body Sculpt

This mat-based class blends concepts and exercises from yoga, Pilates and ballet for a total body burn and stretch. Add this class to supplement your mind-body class OR your rigorous weight circuit. This class is taught in Suite 100 of the Heart and Lung Building.

  • 5:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m., Thursday

Hatha Yoga

Located in Suite 100 in the Heart and Lung Building, this non-threatening class will safely introduce you to basic yoga postures, breathing and relaxation techniques that is easy to follow and suitable for both beginners and experienced practitioners. This class will help with handling stress, become more flexible, increase strength, and bring balance into your life.

  • 5:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m., Monday & Wednesday 

Line Dancing

This eight-week class will teach the most common dance steps along with beginners dances to some of the latest Pop, R&B, Soul and Country music. This class is offered from Aug. 1 until Sept. 19 in Suite 120 on the track.

  • 5:15 p.m. - 6 p.m., Thursdays

WTMGT/GoStrong

This class is open to all of our current and former Weight Management and GoStrong participants. It is taught on the track in Suite 120 of the Heart and Lung Building. Contact the Front Desk at 819-8800 for more information.

  • 5:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m., Tuesday

Silver Sneaker Classic

A low impact class that increases cardiovascular and muscular endurance utilizing a chair, exercise bands and ball. The Monday class incorporates meditation, while the Friday class involves more circuit-like endurance exercises. This class is for 45 minutes and is held in the Heart and Lung Building, Suite 100. Core & More

This all levels class blends Yoga, Pilates and Circuit Training into a 30-minute metabolism booster. Tone, sculpt and engage your core in this energizing and fun way of getting over the mid-day slump. Yoga mats will be available. This class is held in Suite 100 of the Heart and Lung Building.

  • 12:15 p.m. - 12:45 p.m., Tuesday & Thursday

Meditation

Enjoy a peaceful and mindful 30 minutes with combines the practices of yoga with meditation. This class is taught in the Wellness Center Conference Room every Thursday.

Yoga for Cancer Patients

Join Cathy Baxter, a cancer survivor and regsitered yoga instructor, as she sharese what transformed her life during cancer. They very gentle movements in this class will give you much needed energy, make your body feel better and give you a mental release. This class is held in the Candler Hospital Professional Building, room 508.
