Bluffton/Hilton Head Radiation Oncology Center

The Radiation Oncology Center at the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion offers two secondary locations to treat patients in the Bluffton and Hilton Head areas. We are excited to now offer full treatment planning at the SJ/C Bluffton Campus. This means initial planning, consultations and subsequent appointments are all available in the Low Country without having to make the trip to Savannah. 

Our radiation facilities provide the latest advances in radiation therapy and compassionate care, closer to home.

The Bluffton and Hilton Head Radiation Oncology Centers house some advanced radiation technologies, including:

• The TrueBeam– An advancement on traditional radiation, this system is more accurate and creates shorter treatment schedules.
• Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT): IGRT helps to verify the accuracy of radiation treatment with the use of daily imaging before treatment begins. Complemented by sophisticated treatment planning software and pre-treatment imaging studies, this technology is particularly accurate in delivering localized radiation because it allows for breathing and daily internal organ changes.

SC Cancer Specialists Medical Oncology and Infusion Services

St. Joseph's/Candler and South Carolina Cancer Specialists have joined to provide patients in the Low Country the most advanced chemotherapy and other infusion services.

Patients have access to the full range of services provided by the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion, including genetic counseling, dietitian, survivorship program, board certified pharmacists and its relationship with the National Cancer Institute's Community Oncology Research Program.

Medical Director of the St. Joseph’s/Candler-SC Cancer Specialists Hilton Head-Okatie partnership is Dr. Gary W. Thomas. As the only full time hematology oncologist in the region, Dr. Thomas is a leader in the chemotherapy field since 1993 and provides superior care to oncology patients. He is board certified in Medical Oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He is joined in practice by Dr. Majd Chahin and Dr. Gregory Haidemenos. Both are also board certified in medical oncology by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Chahin has been practicing in the Low Country for more than 20 years, and Dr. Haidemenos also has a history of working in the South Carolina region. 

SC Cancer Specialists successfully completed a three-year certification program for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality cancer care. It is the only practice in the Low Country and Savannah region to earn the certification. The recognition comes from the American Society of Clinical Oncology’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative Certification Program (QOPI). Learn more here.
