Neuro-oncology: Technology integrated with clinical research

The neuro-oncology program at the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion is dedicated to eliminating neurological tumors and related disorders. By integrating the latest technology with groundbreaking clinical research, our approach ensures individualized care throughout every stage of the cancer care continuum.

Our mission is to combine innovative technology with the highest standard of medical care to deliver the best possible outcomes for our patients.

We understand that facing a neurological tumor diagnosis is daunting and alters the lives of the patient and their loved ones. We provide advanced treatment options and the emotional and practical support you need for a rapid recovery.

Cutting-edge neurosurgical oncology care

Our neurosurgical oncology program specializes in the surgical removal of primary and metastatic brain tumors and central nervous system (CNS) tumors—both malignant and benign. These cases often require the use of advanced oncologic therapies. At the core of our approach is a dedication to precision and quality of life. Using the latest imaging and surgical technologies, we aim to remove tumors effectively while preserving brain and nerve function. The neurosurgeons on staff at SJ/C are skilled in handling complex cases, ensuring that you receive care from experienced professionals who are leaders in their field. Additionally, we provide pre- and post-surgical support to help you understand the process and feel prepared every step of the way.

Advanced cancer treatment with CyberKnife® and TrueBeam

The CyberKnife® and TrueBeam systems represent the forefront of radiation oncology. These cutting-edge technologies allow our specialists to deliver high doses of radiation with pinpoint accuracy, targeting small areas while sparing surrounding healthy cells.

This non-invasive approach delivers radiation beams from multiple angles with unmatched accuracy, eliminating the need for incisions or lengthy recovery times. The ability to target tumors means fewer side effects, less damage to healthy tissue and improved outcomes for our patients.

CyberKnife® and TrueBeam treatments are designed to be as convenient and comfortable as possible. Most patients can resume their normal activities shortly after treatment, and sessions are typically completed in less time than traditional radiation therapy. This means you can focus on healing without the added stress of prolonged recovery periods. With these advanced tools, we offer hope and effective solutions to patients facing even the most challenging diagnoses.

The impact of clinical trials

Because of our selection as a National Cancer Institute Community Oncology Research Program, we have access to some of the latest cancer trials. Clinical trials at the LCRP provide patients with access to new, advanced treatments before they become widely available. By participating in these trials, patients play an active role in advancing cancer research while receiving cutting-edge care. Trials are conducted under the highest safety standards and often focus on precision medicine, tailoring treatments to the unique genetic makeup of each patient’s cancer. Our commitment to research ensures that our patients benefit from the latest therapies designed to improve outcomes and quality of life.
