How can a nurse navigator help you?

Cancer care should feel seamless, personalized, and centered entirely around you and your needs. Nurse navigators coordinate treatments, assist in scheduling appointments, connect your loved ones to support services and ensure you have access to the most advanced care available. Their role is to lift the logistical burdens from your shoulders, offering clarity and comfort in moments of uncertainty.

Your Nurse Navigator can:

  • Provide education to assist you in understanding your diagnosis and treatment options
  • Act as a patient advocate on your behalf
  • Provide access to clinical trials
  • Provide access to the Steward Center for Palliative Care
  • Decrease barriers to treatment
  • Connect you with financial counselors 
  • Help you coordinate your physician appointments and assist with physician referrals
  • Coordinate delivery of test results, lab work and X-rays
  • Introduce you to survivorship programs

Patient resource navigators assist with local services

A Patient Resource Navigator is a licensed social worker who provides comprehensive support throughout your cancer journey. They assist with financial programs and information related to your diagnosis, connect you to community agencies and services, and offer emotional support to your family and caregivers.

The navigation program at the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion promotes:

  • Education and assistance in navigating diagnostic tests and treatment regimens
  • Psychosocial support and counseling
  • Financial assistance and resources
  • Support for treatment-compliance issues, including transportation, finances, and psychosocial challenges
