Gynecologic Oncology

Advanced gynecologic oncology care at St. Joseph's/Candler

At the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion at St. Joseph’s/Candler, we provide specialized care for women facing gynecologic cancers. Gynecologic oncology focuses on cancers that develop in a woman’s reproductive system, including endometrial, ovarian, and cervical cancers. With nearly 100,000 new cases of gynecological cancer diagnosed each year, the need for advanced, personalized care has never been greater.

Our experienced specialists offer the latest treatment options, including precision-focused procedures using the advanced da Vinci robotic surgical system. This state-of-the-art technology allows for unmatched accuracy and control, giving surgeons the ability to perform complex procedures with smaller incisions and improved precision. Patients benefit from shorter hospital stays, reduced post-operative pain and faster recoveries compared to traditional surgery.

Gynecologic conditions we treat

Our gynecologic oncology team is equipped to diagnose and treat a range of cancers, including:

  • Cervical cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Uterine cancer
  • Vaginal cancer
  • Vulvar cancer

Symptoms such as bleeding, pain, pressure or bloating often lead to earlier detection of these conditions, enabling timely intervention. However, ovarian cancer remains a significant challenge due to its aggressive nature and lack of early warning signs. While there are no approved screening tests for ovarian cancer at this time, our highly skilled team stays at the forefront of research and technological advancements to improve our patient’s outcomes.
