Outpatient Chemotherapy & Infusion

Advanced chemotherapy treatment at the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion

A cancer diagnosis may mean your doctor determines that chemotherapy is a necessary treatment to combat or slow down the disease. Chemotherapy uses powerful drugs to combat or slow the progression of cancer and can be administered as a topical ointment, oral medication or through IV infusion—depending on your specific diagnosis. We provide advanced chemotherapy treatments tailored to your needs at the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion (LCRP) at St. Joseph’s/Candler.

Personalized treatment plans

Our approach combines the latest advancements in medical oncology and the treatment of cancer with a network of support services.

Your survivorship begins with a treatment plan crafted by our experienced medical oncology providers. This plan considers your diagnosis, cancer stage and overall health. Once your chemotherapy regimen is determined, we will ensure you have all the information you need, including details about your therapy and the support services available to help you along the way.

A comfortable infusion experience

For patients receiving IV infusion—the most common method of chemotherapy—we’ve created an infusion center designed to prioritize your comfort and well-being. We understand that spending extended periods receiving treatment can be challenging, so we’ve thoughtfully arranged for a relaxing and welcoming environment. Infusion times can vary from 30 minutes to several hours, and during this time, we want you to feel as at ease as possible. You’ll have access to comfortable seating and amenities you’ll enjoy, such as:

  • Comfortable seating
  • DVDs and Wi-Fi
  • Blanket warmers and pillows
  • Attentive care from our staff
  • Refreshments and nutritional support, if needed

To further enhance your experience, you may bring one adult family member to accompany you. Cancer survivors who volunteer at our center are also available to provide encouragement and engagement during your treatment.

Managing side effects with care

Chemotherapy is a powerful and effective treatment, but it can take a significant toll on your body as it works to fight cancer. Side effects such as nausea, fatigue or hair loss can be stressful and emotionally challenging. We understand how these effects can impact your physical health and mental and emotional well-being, and we are here to help you navigate these challenges with ease.

Our dedicated team is equipped with tools, resources and personalized support to help mitigate the impact of these side effects, allowing you to focus more on your recovery and overall wellness. From medications for managing nausea and fatigue to coordination with dieticians for tailored nutritional support, we address your unique needs at every step. If hair loss becomes a concern, our staff is ready to guide you through options like wigs, turbans, hats or scarves, ensuring you feel supported and confident in your choices. Additionally, we provide specialized resources such as breast prostheses, bras and lymphedema sleeves, should you need them.

Our goal is to help you maintain as much comfort and normalcy as possible during this time, while also empowering you with the knowledge and resources to navigate the side effects of treatment. We are committed to helping you maintain your strength and confidence during this time.
