Training sites for the St. Joseph's/Candler residency program
Candler Hospital

Located in Savannah's midtown, Candler Hospital is Georgia's first hospital (1804) and the second oldest continuously operating hospital in the United States. The 384-bed facility is known for the finest in primary care, outpatient services and other specialty services including oncology services, outpatient surgery and digestive diseases.
Mary Telfair Women's Hospital is located at Candler Hospital and is the region's undisputed leader in advanced obstetrical, gynecological, education and outpatient services for women and children. The Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion also is located on the Candler campus and provides patients with access to some of the most advanced oncology services in the country.
The Candler Hospital campus is where the residency main offices will be located in the newly renovated Executive Court building.
Georgia Infirmary (Continuity of care clinic)

The Internal Medicine continuity of care clinic will be located in the historic Georgia Infirmary.
Clinic rotations within the St. Joseph’s/Candler Internal Medicine Residency offer far more than a traditional training experience—they provide a meaningful opportunity to make a lasting impact. In addition to hands-on learning at two acute care hospitals, residents also serve in a dedicated clinic located in the heart of a medically underserved community, within a building rich in history and purpose.
Housed in the Georgia Infirmary—established in 1832 as the first African-American hospital in the United States—this clinic stands as a powerful symbol of compassion, progress, and community commitment. Here, residents deliver vital continuity of care for patients transitioning from inpatient and outpatient settings, while also serving as a critical lifeline for neighborhood residents who lack access to primary care. It is an experience that not only sharpens clinical skills, but also reinforces the true mission of medicine: caring for those who need it most.
