VIDEO: Modified exercises you can do at any point in your pregnancy

Exercise is recommended during pregnancy, says St. Joseph's/Candler Wellness Center Coordinator and expecting mother Brittany Hartl.

The key is modification. As you progress in your pregnancy, Hartl says you will want to modify your routine. In the video below, she describes some of her favorite exercises and how she's adjusted them.

If you were not regularly active before pregnancy, Hartl still recommends brisk walking, small back exercises and stretching. She says even five to 15 minute walks will help with swollen feet, circulation and energy.

"Overall, you are going to feel a lot better," Hartl says.

During cardio, Hartl says to watch your heart rate. She recommends keeping your heart rate within 50 percent of your max target heart rate. Your target heart rate is a percentage of what your maximum heart rate should be. Click here to calculate your target heart rate.
